Control charts make it possible to distinguish cases where process variability is due to so-called \u201cspecial\u201d causes \u2014 which must be removed to prevent the process from going out of control \u2014 from cases where no intervention is needed because the variability is the natural variability of the process. It is measured through dedicated indices, Cp and Cpk, which make it possible to estimate the percentage of products that will fall outside specification limits and will therefore result in defects in the short or long term.
